BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

Paula C. Kessler is Of Counsel with Alvarez, Winthrop, Thompson & Smoak, P.A. Her practice is focused on litigation.

Paula attended the University of Florida earning her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and then obtained her Juris Doctor Degree at Nova Southeastern University in 1983. While in law school, she was a member of the Nova Trial Advocacy team traveling around the country participating and competing with other schools.

Paula has been practicing in the personal injury litigation defense side for over 35 years starting her practice along with her father, Charles Kessler, at the Pyszka, Kessler firm which has since become Catri, Holton, Kessler & Kessler, P.A. The practice is primarily focused on transportation litigation, representing truck companies, truck insurers, bus lines, and all manner of commercial vehicles involved in personal injury claims. Throughout her career she has also represented amusement parks, daycare facilities, asbestos manufacturers, flood insurers and premises liability claims.

Paula is a founding member of the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA), which was founded in 1993 as a non-profit association with members devoted to sharing knowledge and resources for the defense of the trucking industry. TIDA has become the organization of choice for over 1600 motor carriers, trucking insurers, defense attorneys and claims servicing companies committed to reducing costs of claims and lawsuits against the trucking industry and developing strategies and shared knowledge to defend personal injury claims. She was on the Board of Directors for 9 years and was the TIDA treasurer for 3 years. She also was the chairperson of the TIDA Skills Course seminars for 10 years.

Paula also has represented the School Board of Broward County for her entire career; representing them in personal injury lawsuits against the School Board involving incidents occurring at schools and school bus accidents.

Paula has been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocacy (ABOTA) since 2008, a Martindale Hubble AV rated Preeminent Attorney and participated as a member of the Fort Lauderdale Florida Bar Grievance Committee (17d) as well as the chairman for that committee.

Paula was born and raised in Miami, Florida and when she is not working, she enjoys gardening, boating, and spending time with her husband and son.
