BACKGROUND EXPERIENCECarla Sabbagh is senior counsel with Alvarez, Winthrop, Thompson & Smoak, P.A. Her practice has focused primarily on insurance defense, with experience in a broad range of matters in both state and federal courts, from motor vehicle accidents to copyright infringement. Carla also has significant appellate experience and has presented oral arguments before the Second District Court of Appeal and obtained favorable results for her clients from the Florida Supreme Court. Carla has been admitted to practice in all federal courts in Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
While earning undergraduate degrees in psychology and criminology from the University of Florida, Carla began her law enforcement career, first as a police service technician and later as a police communications operator (dispatcher). In 2006, Carla began her legal studies at the Levin College of Law. While obtaining her law degree, Carla worked as a legal assistant at a personal injury law firm, giving her an insider's view of the plaintiffs' approach to pre-suit negotiations and litigation strategies. Following her admission to the Florida Bar, Carla joined a well-respected insurance defense firm.
A native of Guatemala, Carla was raised in Texas and Florida. When she is not representing clients, Carla devotes her time to fostering special needs dogs and operating a dog rescue in Gainesville, Florida.
